Academic Coach
Job Description
We are recruiting academic and personal development coaches who are passionate about helping students succeed in college and beyond in a completely online program built around your schedule.
Our academic coaches are experienced educators with backgrounds in education, developmental education, student support, advanced test-taking strategies (SAT/ACT/GRE), or graduate-level training in math, science, history, literature, composition, humanities, government, economics, psychology, and geography.
Are You Ready for College academic coaches serve as resources for our clients to assist them in preparing for (1) studying effectively, (2) achieving higher grades, and (3) preparing for college.
They may also aid students as they prepare for exams or connect them with other resources for their personal development.
To be a successful academic coach, candidates should be invested in the success of their students and have a thorough understanding of developmental processes, post-secondary education admissions, financial aid, and student resources. Academic coaches will also need to be analytical and collaborative and possess the desire to motivate students. Strong computer and communication skills are required.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Providing academic support to students in an online environment
Working with students online individually or in small groups
Building rapport with students
Helping students identify strengths and weaknesses
Encouraging students with positive reinforcement during their sessions
Scaffolding information so that students have small transformations during each session
Assisting students with setting their academic and career goals
Developing student habits and other skills to ensure their success
Analyzing data and tracking student progress toward goals
Connecting students with other resources, as needed
Maintaining records of students tutored and assisting with data reports
Attending and completing mandatory training
Creating resources for students such as handouts, videos, podcasts, etc.
Offering outstanding customer service
Assisting students with signing in to Are You Ready for College, encouraging them to prepare for tutoring sessions, and completing surveys.
Assisting with additional duties as needed, such as exam preparation and scheduling appointments, etc.
REQUIREMENTS
Must be working towards or hold a Bachelor’s degree
Experience in teaching, tutoring, counseling, corporate training, business management, and/or leadership is preferred
A desire to help students succeed
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Willingness to collaborate and build rapport with students
Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
Familiarity with college admissions processes, financial aid, and student resources
Ability to motivate students as they transition from high school to college to career
Skill in telephone etiquette, courteous communication, and strong written and communication skills.
Physical requirements are necessary to perform essential job functions, like the ability to sit in front of a computer for extended periods.
FUNCTIONS
Excellent customer service skills, as well as effective oral and written communication skills
Working knowledge of Microsoft Word,
Knowledge of office practices and procedures
Demonstrated ability to comprehend and follow oral and written instructions accurately
Good interpersonal skills and ease in relating to people from varying educational, cultural, and social backgrounds
Responsible, reliable, and punctual
Ability to learn assigned tasks readily
Must be flexible and able to adapt to change
COMPENSATION
$20 - $50 (per hour)
Varies by project
