My Why

If your current academic status is “it’s complicated”, or if you’re unsure about your academic future you’ve come to the right place.

I have a passion for freshman and working college students.

Well, as the story goes, my GPA fell below a 3.0, and I lost my academic scholarship at the end of my freshman year.

I couldn’t afford my tuition and dorm. I maxed out my student loans, got a full-time job, moved off campus, and changed my major three times.

After some soul searching and a lot of Denny’s oatmeal at 3 AM, I realized that the only thing I was good at was English, where a 3.7 GPA.

I took the five-year route to graduation and set my sights on becoming an English professor.

This craziness led me to my passion.

Immediately, after graduating, I enrolled in a Master of Arts in English at Texas Southern University. I thought I would be teaching English composition, but a couple of weeks before class started, they gave me a textbook and said, “You’ll be teaching Developmental Reading.”

I opened the book to Chapter 1… “Study Skills”. Life came full circle.
